Championing Respect: Our Anti-discrimination Commitment
East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is clear that discrimination, harassment, violence, and racism have no place in our organisation or in the care we provide. This includes unacceptable behaviour directed at our staff by patients, relatives or members of the public.
We strive to create an inclusive culture rooted in our Trust values of:
- Respect: valuing diversity and treating everyone with dignity
- Accountability: taking responsibility for our actions and decisions
- Excellence : continuously improving how we work and how we treat one another
We take a zero tolerance approach. This means such behaviour is never acceptable, regardless of intent, role, or seniority. It will be challenged wherever it occurs, addressed promptly, and met with proportionate and consistent, and fair action. At the same time, we support learning and improvement, so that harm is prevented and standards continually improved.
We are committed to prevention, not just response. Inclusion does not happen by chance; it is created through our everyday actions, strong leadership, and clear accountability. Our expectations are rooted in our Trust values of respect, accountability, and excellence.
Our commitments are to:
- Set and uphold clear standards of behaviour where dignity and respect are non negotiable.
- Promote inclusion proactively by embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into training, leadership and daily practice.
- Ensure clear accountability, through accessible reporting routes, fair and timely investigations, transparent decision making and action in line with Trust policies.
- Support those affected, through compassionate leadership, appropriate wellbeing support, and protection from victimisation.
- Use data and insight, openly and responsibly, to identify inequalities, track progress and drive improvement.
- Encourage and support staff to speak up, knowing that concerns will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
Everyone in EEAST shares responsibility for this commitment. Leaders at every level are expected to model our values, act on concerns, and create safe, inclusive environments for staff, volunteers, patients, and communities we serve.
This statement sets a clear standard. It is not symbolic; it shapes how we behave, how we lead and how we hold ourselves to account.
This commitment is published internally and externally to reflect our openness, our responsibility, and our confidence in the standards we demand of ourselves.
Signed,
Neill Moloney, Chief Executive
