Over 700 years of ambulance service in Hertfordshire recognised
Date: 7 August 2026Ambulance staff and volunteers in Hertfordshire have been formally recognised and thanked for more than 700 years of combined service to the NHS, at a long service event in Knebworth.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) proudly celebrated the outstanding dedication of staff at the event, which was held on 31 July at Knebworth House.
The event recognised 27 exceptional individuals whose combined service to healthcare spans over 700 years.
Attendees enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea before receiving their awards from Neill Moloney, Chief Executive of EEAST, and Hein Scheffer, Director of Strategy, Transformation and Governance.
Paul Dawe, an Advanced Paramedic Urgent Care who works in EEAST's Clinical Assessment Service (CAS), was recognised for an incredible 40 years of ambulance service. Two colleagues received coins for 35 years of service to the NHS each, and 14 people received Ambulance Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medals for 20 years’ frontline ambulance service.
EEAST CEO Neill Moloney said: "It was an honour to recognise the incredible dedication and service of our colleagues in Hertfordshire. Together, they represent over 700 years of commitment to patient care, compassion, and professionalism.
"Every year we recognise the extraordinary service of so many individuals in the ambulance service, who each play a vital role in keeping our communities safe and supported. On behalf of the Trust and the NHS, I want to thank them for their outstanding contribution."
This year is also the 20th anniversary of the formation of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. On 1 July 2006, the region's three ambulance services – Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, East Anglia, and Essex – formally merged to create one ambulance service for the whole region.
