With the autumn season in full swing, Halloween is not far away from us!
However you choose to be celebrate, its important to stay safe and avoid any unnecessary scares!
Weve complied some top tips on how to stay safe and vigilant this spooky season:
- Try and use face paint or make-up as opposed to a mask, which can restrict how much you can see.
- If you are using face paint or make-up, carry out a patch test on a small area of skin in advance to check youre not allergic to anything.
- Always make sure children are accompanied by an adult or in a group. Never let them go out alone.
- Ensure you can be seen in the dark by wearing something reflective or carrying a torch or glowstick so youre visible to drivers.
- Prevent trips and falls by walking rather than running, as some costumes can restrict movement.
- Never walk near lit candles or flames and be sure to check your costume is flame-resistant! Check for a UKCA or UKNI mark on the label - find out more on ROSPAs website.
- Always check any treats youre given in case of potential choking hazards or tampering.
- In all the excitement, dont forget road safety - be careful and look both ways when crossing the road and stick to the pavements.
- Only go to houses that are well lit - chances are if someones house is in darkness, they arent welcoming spooky visitors.
- Try and stick to trick-or-treating in an area you know well, so you will be able to easily navigate in the darker evenings.
