A brand-new public access defibrillator has been installed at Woodside Park in Benfleet, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor to the local community first responder group.

This life-saving automated external defibrillator (AED) is a welcome addition to Woodside Park – a vibrant community hub home to local sports clubs, a popular dog-walking route, and a green space enjoyed by families.

By placing an AED in such a central and well-used location, we are helping ensure that vital equipment is available within moments should someone suffer a cardiac emergency.

Quick access to a defibrillator can make a critical difference in survival rates. Its presence offers reassurance and peace of mind to everyone who uses the park.

Dan Matthews, Team Leader and Coordinator for Benfleet Community First Responders, said:

“We extend our deepest thanks to the incredible individual whose anonymous donation made this possible. Your kindness and belief in community safety will have a lasting impact – one that could one day save a life.

“We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to Castle Point Council for their invaluable support. Their cooperation in approving the placement and overseeing the installation has been essential, and we are grateful for their commitment to safeguarding our local area.”

Claire Ruddy, Community Response Manager for Essex, added:

“This is a fantastic addition to the Benfleet community and will help keep people safer. Early CPR and defibrillation greatly increase survival chances, and improving public access to AEDs is key.

“Thank you to the anonymous donor for making this possible.”
