King's Lynn Man Completes 255 Mile Cycle Challenge in 24 Hours for East of England Ambulance Service Charity

Date: 13 June 2025

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and dedication, Stuart Howlett, a make ready coordinator for the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST), has completed a gruelling 255-mile cycle challenge to raise funds for the East of England Ambulance Service Charity.

Starting at 5am on 11 June 2025 from King’s Lynn ambulance station, Stuart cycled to all EEAST’s 17 ambulance stations across Norfolk, returning to King’s Lynn at 2am the following morning – completing the full loop in less than 24 hours.

Battling fatigue, Stuart was driven by a deep commitment to support his colleagues in the ambulance service.

At each stop, he was greeted with cheers, encouragement and heartfelt gratitude from colleagues.

Reflecting on the experience, Stuart said: “The day was one to remember. I’ll never forget turning into the final home station – it was jaw dropping for me. Blue lights from the ambulances lit up the front of the station and the night crews were there to welcome him. All in all, a fabulous day. I’m now physically broken, but it was worth it.”

So far, Stuart has raised an impressive £3,556, getting closer to his fundraising goal of £5,255. This could fund life-saving equipment for the volunteer community first responders like a raiser chair, which can lift someone who has fallen back to their feet in minutes, potentially preventing further injury or fund vital wellbeing support for frontline colleagues.

Neill Moloney, Chief Executive of EEAST, said: “Stuart’s achievement is nothing short of inspirational. His determination, resilience, and commitment to supporting our ambulance service community exemplify the very best of EEAST. Cycling 255 miles in 24 hours is a remarkable physical challenge, but what stands out even more is the spirit behind it. On behalf of everyone at EEAST, I want to thank Stuart for his incredible effort and the awareness and funds he’s raised for our charity.”
