Bungay Medical Centre donation supporting local first responders

Date: 31 July 2024

A generous donation by the Bungay Medical Centre has helped purchase equipment for the Bungay community first responder (CFR) group.

The East of England Ambulance Service Charity has received over £6,100 from the Bungay Medical Centre. This funding boosts equipment for the Bungay community first responder (CFR) group.

CFRs volunteer to save lives in their communities. The Bungay CFR group recently added three new members. Now, they can buy a second life-saving kit bag. Which means they can help more people. Each bag includes a defibrillator, oxygen, and a blood pressure monitor.

Additionally, they purchased a specialised lifting chair. This chair helps people who have fallen back on to their feet, reducing unnecessary hospital trips.

Alan Rudd, volunteer Bungay CFR for five years said:

“I would like to thank Professor Hand, Mr Huggins and all the trustees for their generosity with the donation made towards Bungay community first responders. This will greatly assist us with additional cover within the area. With the addition of the raizer chair, we can attend non injury falls leaving a frontline vehicle available to attend more urgent call outs.”

Professor Hand, Chair of the Bungay Medical Centre CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) said:

"The Bungay Medical Centre CIO gives donations to individuals who have health needs, and to organisations that provide help for such people.

"The Bungay CFR group is just the sort of organisation that we support, especially in rural areas where ambulance response times can be slow."

Peter Sefton-Smalley, Community Response Manager for Norfolk and Waveney, praised the donation. He said it would enhance support for local patients, especially those who have fallen.

You can support your local CFR group by donating to the East of England Ambulance Service Charity.
