Award-winning ambulance team helps more than 100,000 patients get the right care
Date: 29 September 2026A team whose work has helped more than 100,000 patients access the right care while improving ambulance availability across the East of England has been named Clinical Team of the Year at the East of England Ambulance Service's annual Stars of EEAST Awards.
The Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) received the award in recognition of its outstanding contribution to patient care and its commitment to ensuring patients receive the most appropriate support for their needs.
By increasing the number of patients safely supported through telephone assessment and clinical triage, the team has helped more people receive timely advice, treatment and referrals without the need for an ambulance response or hospital attendance where appropriate.
During the last 12 months, CAS clinically assessed more than 101,000 patients, including over 45,000 Category 2 patients. Through expert clinical assessment and triage, the team helped patients access the most appropriate care pathway and receive timely advice, support and treatment.
Richard Smith, Clinical Lead for the Clinical Assessment Service said:
"It's an absolute honour on behalf of the team to accept the award for clinical team of the year. It's been a massive effort across all our clinical teams, our non-clinical teams and all our support service to achieve what we have.
"Every day the team is preventing unnecessary ambulance response and protecting our sickest of patients.
Through dedication, professionalism and collaboration, CAS continues to make a lasting difference to patients and colleagues across the East of England."
