960 years of ambulance service in Norfolk and Waveney recognised
Date: 24 July 2026Ambulance staff and volunteers in Norfolk and Waveney have been formally recognised and thanked for an incredible 960 years of combined service to the NHS, at a long service event near Norwich.
The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) proudly celebrated the outstanding dedication of staff at the event, which was held on 13 July at Barnham Broom Hotel near Norwich.
The event recognised 38 exceptional individuals whose combined service to healthcare spans 960 years.
Attendees enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea before receiving their awards from Neill Moloney, Chief Executive of EEAST, and Steven Course, Chief Finance Officer.
Four people were recognised for 40 years' service each, two colleagues were recognised for 35 years' service each, and 11 people received Ambulance Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medals for 20 years' frontline ambulance service.
Steven Watson, a senior Emergency Medical Technician based in Norwich, has dedicated half a century to public service – having served in the Royal Navy and fire and rescue service before joining EEAST. He received a medal for 20 years of ambulance service.
EEAST CEO Neill Moloney said: "It was an honour to recognise the incredible dedication and service of our colleagues in Norfolk. Together, they represent over 400 years of commitment to patient care, compassion, and professionalism.
"Every year we recognise the extraordinary service of so many individuals in the ambulance service, who each play a vital role in keeping our communities safe and supported. On behalf of the Trust and the NHS, I want to thank them for their outstanding contribution."
This year is also the 20th anniversary of the formation of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust. On 1 July 2006, the region's three ambulance services – Essex, East Anglia, and Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire – formally merged to create one ambulance service for the whole region.
