Don't Choose to Abuse
Your safety – your decision
The Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill came into effect in November 2018, doubling the penalties for assaulting ambulance crews and other blue-light workers.
While we hope this will get the message through to the public that abuse and violence against staff is never acceptable and has consequences, we are re-booting the #DontChooseToAbuse campaign to drive the message home.
An important part of this is for all public-facing staff to remember that they can make choices about their safety ¬¬– and that management will support those choices.
Remember:
- You can make choices about your personal safety when taking care of others
- Trust your instincts: if you don’t feel safe – get out!
- You will never be in trouble for putting your own personal safety first
- If you are abused or assaulted – report it!
- You will be supported.
