The guys and girls in green have been praised by their bosses for their hard work and professionalism during this year’s V Festival in Chelmsford.

Festival goers turned up in their thousands to watch the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber perform at Hylands Park, but despite crowds exceeding that of 85,000, only a few hundred required medical treatment from our staff and volunteers.

In total, we treated more than 380 patients over the weekend (19th – 21st August). Injuries ranged from bee stings to blisters, fractures to falls, and more than a few who had consumed excess alcohol. Fortunately the majority of people were able to be treated and discharged on site, with just 30 people requiring hospital treatment.

Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer Jon Moore said: "I'm delighted with the efforts made by our staff and volunteers over the weekend working alongside all the other agencies and colleagues. It's pleasing to see the total number of patients being treated is low when compared to the very high numbers that attend, and I hope that this trend continues in following years."

He added: "Medical staff treated more than 900 people as we worked closely with colleagues at St John Ambulance Service, on-site doctors and other emergency colleagues to ensure people received the necessary care required, and in many cases, could continue to enjoy the festival. I'd like to thank everyone who was involved including the operational, control and many support staff that work hard to make this such a successful event."

Kevin Brown, Director of Service Delivery, also paid tribute to the staff involved: “This is a big event and has many challenges, so I thank everyone for the efforts that went into the organisation and planning of our presence there and to make it a safe event. About 90% of patients were prevented from needing hospital conveyance because of the good quality care our teams gave during the weekend.”
