Ambulance Service Board meeting

Date: 28 November 2016

Hot topics at the next East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) public Board meeting (30 November) will include dementia, clinical app, patient feedback, quality  and performance updates, and the Trust’s Emergency Clinical Advice & Triage Centre.

In particular the Board will be hearing from a renal patient with dementia and his wife about their experiences of the Patient Transport Service in Essex, a service provided by EEAST and which they rely on to use three times a week. These stories give the Board a direct insight into how patients and users view the service, what is good about EEAST and what needs to improve. They form a fundamental part of the Trust’s learning culture.

EEAST’s new dementia strategy will also be presented which sets out objectives for the next three years to help the Trust become a more dementia friendly organisation. With more than 82,500 people in the East of England living with a diagnosis of dementia, this strategy recognises the need to put dementia at the centre of EEAST’s work.

There will be an update on the cultural audit. This aims to understand staff experience of the workplace and what impacts both positively and negatively on peoples’ health and wellbeing. The outcome of the audit will help form a plan to drive the organisation, and its culture, forward so that EEAST becomes an employer of choice in the region. The Board will also hear first-hand about the Trust’s new clinical app, which gives staff all the clinical information they need at their fingertips.

The Board will also hear about the Trust’s Emergency Clinical Advice and Triage centre. This service is based in the three Emergency Operation Centres and in time will see patients and staff have access to a wide range of health professional over the phone.  This will mean that more patients can be supported over the phone in their home or referred to the right service for their needs. This will also mean that precious ambulance resources can be better targeted at those patients who need a face to face response.
