After reading in the Daily Mail today about emergency care assistants being sent to incidents without a trained medic? I am very interested to know if this happens in our area?

It is not normal practice for our emergency care assistants to work alone; we always aim for them to work with a paramedic or technician.
Where this isn’t possible, they may work together and respond to non-urgent calls.
When they are the nearest resource available to a cardiac arrest they may attend as a first response before other crews arrive.
Our care assistants are appropriately trained in emergency first aid and can provide essential care.
