19302 - Safeguarding Statistics

The subject I am focusing on is Safeguarding both adults and children; The paramedics role. The statistics I am looking to obtain is how many referrals for safeguarding were made by ambulance staff between the years of 2016 and 2017. If possible, I would also like to know how many of these were followed up by external services such as social care services.

Please see below a table of the safeguarding referrals made for the time period requested:

Calendar Year Adult referrals Children’s referrals
    January – December 2016 23856 6324
    January – December 2017 32982 7945

With regards to follow up by external services, this information is unknown and falls outside the remit of the ambulance service, as our duty is to alert and pass on intelligence. In addition, feedback is not received on every referral made. However every referral would need to be screened by the appropriate local authority to determine if further intervention/action is needed.
