18094 - Sickness due to Muscular Skeletal Injuries

I am writing to request information for the period of 1st January 2017 to 31st December 2017 in relation to the number of days lost / taken by front-line patient-facing staff as sickness which has been attributed to muscular skeletal injuries as a direct result of frontline duties.

I would be interested to know if you record how these injuries occurred and if so the number attributed to the manual handling of your standard response bag carried on front-line RRV's and DSA's.

For the period 1st January to 31st December 2017 Front-line staff recorded a total of 13321 days of sickness as either Back Problems or Other Musculoskeletal Problems. This figure includes days where staff were not due to work.
Of this figure 2248 days have been logged as work related.

A Datix or Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) incident should be raised if an injury has happened whilst working.

There were 15 Datix incidents during 2017 as incidents due to manual handling, specific to carrying medical equipment. Please note this does not mean the reporter of the incident had a sickness absence, as the Datix report does not ask this question when the incident is logged.
