May 2015 - case study 2

Date: 30 April 2015

  • Details:

The crew would not let the complainant travel in the ambulance with his wife when she was taken to hospital. The complainant is the patient’s carer.

  • Findings:

The crew should have allowed the complainant to travel with the patient. When the crew were spoken to, they were unaware of any issues with the care provided on the day and apologised for any upset caused.

  • Lesson learnt / action taken:

The investigating manager added a marker to the CAD to show that the patient was confused and it was essential that her carer stayed with her at all times.
