NHS Heroes - who is yours?
05 February 2013

Who do you know who has gone the extra mile to provide exceptional care this winter, or in the months before when you needed some help? Don’t miss your chance to say ‘thank you’... you can nominate them as your NHS Hero.

This winter has been particularly challenging for the region’s NHS staff, with outbreaks of norovirus and flu, and adverse weather conditions putting hospitals, GP practices and ambulance services under a great deal of pressure.

Recent widespread snow and icy conditions brought school and road closures, flight cancellations and people unable to leave home but stopping isn’t an option for East of England Ambulance Service NHS Staff (EEAST) who provide a 24/7, 365 days a year service. No matter the weather conditions, ambulance and other NHS teams go above and beyond their call of duty day in, day out to make sure patients get the right care when they need it - without the expectation of acknowledgement or a thank you.

NHS Heroes provides people with chance to give a little back by saying thank you and acknowledging people who have been heroes this winter. Patients, their friends and families, colleagues and professional peers can all nominate their personal NHS hero.

Andrew Morgan, EEAST's Interim Chief Executive, said: “This winter we have seen just how inspirational our staff are and it is because of their determination and spirit that patients have continued to be able to access the care they need.  I know many of our staff treat patients at very difficult incidents on a daily basis, which really hits does hit home why we’re all here and what we’re working towards. I am very proud of the excellent care our staff continue to give to patients.

“Members of the public sometimes aren’t sure how to show their appreciation for the care they have received – our Patient Services team is here to help with that but NHS Heroes is another great  chance to do this.””
Completing a nomination will only take a few minutes of your time, but the pride of being nominated will stay with your hero forever. Visit www.nhsheroes.com and remember - you don’t need to save lives to be a hero, sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference.
