Becoming a Foundation Trust governor

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) is encouraging people to sign up as member of their ambulance service, and to also consider becoming a governor.

EEAST is applying to become an NHS Foundation Trust. NHS Foundation Trusts give local people a much greater say in their health services and how they develop. By becoming a foundation trust we will be able to involve thousands of people in the way we run and develop services.  This is your opportunity to take part in this exciting stage in our development – please get involved!
 
More than 4,000 people have already signed up as members and the Trust is now asking those members to consider becoming a governor. Governors have a vitally important role, and we are looking for a range of people to bring their different skills and experience to the members council (the body that holds the Trust Board to account).
 
EEAST is holding a number of sessions across the region for all the Trust's FT members who are interested in becoming a governor. These sessions will give an idea of what it means to be a governor, the responsibilities of the role, and answer any questions people might have.
 
These opportunities are open to current members, but people will have the time to sign up as a member, and then attend a session if they are keen to know more.
 
The governor role is voluntary and one that simply requires time and commitment. Formalities include appointing the Trust’s chairman and non-executive directors, and it is their responsibility to represent members’ interests, particularly in relation to the strategic direction of the Trust. Governors are there to challenge the Board of Directors and hold them to account for the Trust’s performance.
 
Governors are elected by members to represent their local community on the Members’ Council.
