Primary Care

GP Out of Hours care in Bedfordshire

This service operates when Bedfordshire GP surgeries are closed and provides access to a clinician via clinical telephone triage or in local Primary Care Centre bases where a face-to-face consultation is deemed appropriate.

When you or a member of your family is taken ill outside the normal surgery opening times, you can still call your normal surgery number.  You will either be transferred direct to the service or given another number to call via an answer phone message.

Callers will be asked a brief series of questions to assess the priority of the patient’s complaint and the call will then be passed to the appropriate GP Out of Hours service for one of the following:

  • Telephone advice from either a GP or Nurse clinician
  • an invitation to attend a primary care centre
  • a home visit from a GP (where appropriate).

The out of hours period is defined as:

6.30pm to 8.00am Monday to Thursday

Weekends 6.30pm Friday to 08.00am Monday

Public and bank holidays
